Situation: A highway accident involving commercial scale lithium-ion batteries (the size of sheds) resulted in a fire and hazardous conditions requiring both immediate response and safe long-term neutralization.
Lithium-Ion Battery Incident/Emergency Response
Services Provided: EnviroServe was called by one of its regular customers to develop and implement a standard operating procedure for remotely neutralizing and disposing of damaged lithium-ion batteries. The team used custom designed saltwater brine baths and cranes to safely submerge and neutralize batteries, documenting the procedure for future, scalable use (including applications for electric vehicle batteries).
Results: The project set a precedent for safe lithium-ion battery remediation. EnviroServe designed a replicable, compliant method to address a growing market need for battery facility safety frameworks and became recognized experts for hazardous battery management.
